OUR PLAN!

Our goal is to provide lessons that achieve the goals of the student; whether that is to play their favourite AC/DC song, achieve their next grading certificate, or learning a cool groove so that they can jam with their siblings.

Having taught in both mainstream and SEN schools ourselves, here at Hampshire Drum School we have crafted our own comprehensive way of teaching instrumental lessons that is relaxed and easy for students. It all has to be about fun and inspiration. If you don't have either of those, the learning is impossible!

We take this job very seriously and the student's needs always trump academics. You can't rush proper achievement.

The Journey So Far!

Hi, I am Sam Sanders.

I am a professional musician, who's played drums and percussion for over two decades. I've taught both privately and in schools (independent, mainstream and SEN), which has given me a breadth of experience across the many challenges that learners both young and old face.

In September 2019, I established Hampshire Drum School as a new premium music school. We operated out of The Old Blacksmiths Studios, Portsmouth and the University of Winchester, where I also became the resident drum teacher.

Obviously, this was disrupted by the Covid Pandemic, where we alternated between face-to-face and online lessons as we negotiated the regulations that were in place.

From January 2022 onwards, we were really able to hit the ground running, leading to our expansion in April 2025 to our own premises.

A small tuition service consisting of just myself and the right equipment, has now become an independent and ever expanding music school. We now provide lessons on not just drums, but guitar, bass, and piano also, with a wonderful team of professional musicians and educators running the show.

A REWARDING CHALLENGE!

Every instrument poses challenges to the one learning it. Whichever instrument you choose to learn will test your coordination, musicality and will-power! However, it can be the most rewarding past time once something 'clicks'.

All students are encouraged to form bands in their own time, and will always be welcomed to the tutor's own performances to observe and learn.

Parents are also more than welcome to sit in, so that they can be involved with the student's learning and experiences should they want to.
